Palestinian Press Agency (Safa) journalist Akram al-Shafi'i was martyred after being shot by the Israeli occupation forces during the aggression against the Gaza Strip. Al-Shafi'i (53 years old) was shot in late October 2023 by the occupation forces while he was trying to return to inspect his house that was bombed in the northwestern area of Gaza City. The martyr lay for more than two months in the hospital suffering from a serious injury in the abdominal area, which led to damage to many body functions, until he was martyred after a severe deterioration in his health condition. The occupation forces' invasion of Al-Shifa Medical Complex in mid-November contributed to the deterioration of the martyr's health, as he remained for more than two weeks without treatment and medical care inside it, as soldiers arrested the medical staff and blew up the medicine warehouses. After he was transferred to a hospital in the southern Gaza Strip, his condition deteriorated further, until he died as a martyr and a witness to Israeli criminality. Akram Al-Shafi'i has been working as a press editor at Safa News Agency since 2019, and during his more than 25-year career, he moved between several print, audio-visual and electronic media outlets. The martyr prepared hundreds of written and photographic materials that exposed the crimes of the occupation against our people and reflected their steadfastness and steadfastness on their land. He also focused on preparing reports on the living lives of the people of Gaza and the deterioration of their conditions due to the Israeli siege. The last report prepared by the martyr dealt with the state of solidarity and solidarity among the displaced people inside Al-Shifa Medical Complex, as he was one of them and lived through their journey of displacement under shelling and heavy bullets.
